The V&CPP (Velocity And Consumption Prediction Program) developed in America's Cup , flexible and scriptable optimization environment for modelling the steady-state of physical systems. It is designed primarily for the performance prediction and optimization of sailing vessels, in which hydrodynamic and aerodynamic forces are represented by surface fits to experimental or computationally generated data of each component.
Ships fitted with wind propulsion systems are subject to loads unusual for regular ships : the forces and resulting moments exerted by the wind propulsion system on the ship structure. Those loads force an atypical sailing attitude, with higher than usual angles of leeway, trim and heel. The correct resulting sailing attitude must be predicted precisely to accurately assess the global performance.
A 6DoF VPP allows for adjustments in the DESIGN (wind propulsion system dimensioning and positioning, loads and eights configuration, hull and appendages design etc..) without the need for extensive computations in order to adapt the underlying models. Our 6DoF VPP relies on fully captive CFD data , which are quicker to compute and more accurate than2DoF data needed for classic 4DoF VPPs). Moreover, they allow for more freedom on weight and CG estimates which gives more scope for design. 2DoF CFD needs to be run at fixed target displacement and trim, which limits its validity in case those are not constant.

Our tools and workflow are fully scriptable and customizable to adapt to the client's needs.
